Today, the Chinese Customs officially issued a document, recently, during the inspection of imported cars, the Customs found that there were no Chinese warning signs for imported Tesla Model 3 pure electric vehicles, missing nameplates for the whole vehicle, incorrect nameplate labeling, and other problems, so the release of 4678 imported Model 3 pure electric vehicles was suspended, but it was assessed that risks could be eliminated by replacing nameplates at the port.

The General Administration of Customs said that recently, during the inspection of imported cars, the Customs found that there were no Chinese warning signs for imported Tesla Model 3 pure electric vehicles, missing nameplates, incorrect nameplates, and other problems, which did not meet the requirements of the national mandatory standard GB7258-2017 "Technical conditions for safe Operation of Motor vehicles", and there were hidden dangers, affecting the legitimate rights and interests of consumers. For example, unqualified warning signs will affect the maintenance of vehicles; the lack of vehicle nameplates will directly affect the registration and transfer of ownership of vehicles; mislabelled nameplates will provide wrong information to consumers and easily lead to contract disputes.

After an interview with Tesla, the company explained that the main reasons for the above problems are the wrong logic setting of the label printing subsystem during vehicle production, the wrong configuration of the production material list, the manual operation of the production line, and so on. All the 4678 Model 3 pure electric vehicles that have arrived in Hong Kong recently may have the above problems. The General Administration of Customs issued a warning notice to the customs across the country, requiring the suspension of imported Model 3 pure electric vehicles and entrusting technical institutions to conduct risk assessment.

According to the assessment, there are some risks in the above problems, but the hidden dangers can be eliminated by replacing the nameplate at the port. At present, the Customs is closely supervising Tesla Company to actively implement technical rectification and reform in accordance with the requirements, and can only be released after passing the inspection, to ensure that the Model 3 pure electric vehicles entering the market meet the requirements of China's mandatory standards and protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers.

Tesla also revealed to the media on Tuesday that he had reached a rectification plan with the Chinese Customs, which would not affect the domestic sales of Model 3. "this mistake is caused by the misprinting of nameplates on some Model 3 vehicles. We have reached a rectification plan with the General Administration of Customs and are working closely to resume the vehicle clearance process as soon as possible. After the vehicles have passed the examination and approval, we will deliver them to our customers as soon as possible. This does not affect the domestic sales of Model 3. "

Tesla's sharp price reduction caused an uproar in recent days, with car owners collectively pulling banners to protect their rights, coupled with the withholding of Model 3, Tesla's share price closed down 3.09% on Tuesday, down more than 5% in intraday trading.
