On the evening of August 9, a Russian businessman Alexey Tretyakov driving a Model S in downtown Moscow accidentally collided with a trailer (parked or broke down at the time) and caught fire and exploded on the spot. Tesla's car burst into flames after it hit the trailer. The businessman and three children were rushed to hospital for treatment, but were seriously injured. According to reports, the businessman suffered a concussion and a broken leg, and the two children suffered injuries to their cervical vertebrae and chest.

Although there was no official confirmation, there were reports that the Tesla car had an autopilot system failure, which failed to identify vehicles parked on the side of the road for repair, the report said.

RT said the sudden explosion and fire on the highway frightened drivers passing by. An eyewitness filmed the scene, and one of them even filmed the moment the car exploded and caught fire.

This is Tesla's third accident in four months.

Last month, a woman drove a rented Tesla car through a red light in San Francisco, killing a tourist on the spot and seriously injuring his wife. The woman was later arrested by the police. Police are investigating whether Tesla, leased by Getaround, a car rental service, is on autopilot and uses the Autopilot function, local police said in a statement.

In March, a Tesla driver, a Model 3, collided with a tractor trailer at a speed of 68mph, killing him. At that time, he was using Tesla's Autopilot advanced driving assistance system.

After that, the family of the car owner announced through his lawyer that he would file a lawsuit against Tesla and seek compensation of more than 15000 US dollars. Tesla's Autopilot system failed in the accident, the lawsuit alleges.

However, the accident also triggered a federal investigation into Tesla, but in the end, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) ended the investigation without finding any defects and blamed the accident on Autopilot's lack of systematic security.

Prior to this, Tesla also received at least five subpoenas from the US auto safety regulator asking for information about Tesla's car accident.

It also questioned the fact that Tesla's Model 3 electric car was "designed to be the safest car ever", saying that Tesla ignored the relative weight difference between Model 3 and other cars, making it impossible to make a relatively accurate comparison and misleading consumers.

Today, even many brands are trumpeting their smart driving technology to paint a bright future for consumers. However, as long as the "driver can not give up responsibility" clause still exists, in the event of an accident, the most direct responsibility will be put on the driver.
