Sales of luxury car brands in China in July: Mercedes-Benz rose 13% to win the championship, while Lexus surpassed Cadillac

According to data from the Federation of passengers, the total sales of luxury cars in the domestic market in July 2019 were 184044, up 24.3% from the same period last year, while the cumulative sales from January to July this year were 1230832, up 10.7% from the same period last year. Although China's car market has shrunk for many months, sales of luxury cars are still strong.

Judging from the brand performance of the luxury car market, the BBA competition in the first line is still fierce. Although Mercedes-Benz surpassed BMW in July, it only lagged behind BMW in sales from January to July; second-tier brand Lexus surpassed Cadillac, while Jaguar Land Rover's performance gradually picked up, growing by 40.3% year-on-year in July.

Mercedes-Benz's sales in China rose 13% in July from a year earlier, surpassing Audi and BMW with strong strength. In three months, Mercedes-Benz delivered 59435 vehicles in China, compared with a cumulative total of 404092 by July.

In July, BMW had the highest growth in BBA sales, up 16.4 per cent from a year earlier to 51377 vehicles. BMW Group did not disclose cumulative sales in the previous July, but employees of BMW and MINI brands sold 404023 vehicles, up 16.6 per cent from a year earlier.

China is Audi's most important market in the world, where it sold 56365 vehicles in July, up 6 per cent from a year earlier and setting a record for July sales. Audi A8L sales rose 21.2%, contributing to sales growth; demand for Audi A4L, Audi's best-selling model in China, remained strong, with sales up 3.7% from a year earlier. In the first seven months of this year, Audi delivered a total of 368867 new cars in China and Hong Kong, an increase of 2.5 per cent year-on-year.

In addition to the three German luxury brands, Cadillac, Volvo and Lexus have all maintained growth.

Sales of Cadillac in China rose 2.8 per cent in July from a year earlier to 14700, with cumulative sales of 129300 from January to July, up 2.1 per cent from a year earlier, making it firmly at the top of the list of second-tier luxury cars.

In July, Cadillac SUV sold a total of 12102 vehicles, of which XT5 sales rose 33.3% month-on-month in July, up 23.7% from a year earlier. In terms of cars, the cumulative sales of the main models ATS-L and XTS are only 60, 000, and the CT6 rose 90.1% in July compared with the same period last year.

On the other hand, Lexus sold 16110 vehicles in July, up 6% from the same period last year, of which 5721 smart hybrid models were sold, accounting for 35.5% of the month's sales. in the first seven months of this year, the brand delivered a total of 109933 cars to customers, a sharp increase of 31% over the same period last year. The cumulative sales of smart hybrid models reached 37518, up 43% from the same period last year, accounting for 34% of the total sales.

Volvo's deliveries in China surged 25 per cent to 12639 vehicles in July from a year earlier, with XC60 and S90 models made in China contributing a lot to the rise. On July 2, Volvo announced the official launch of its 2020 S90 luxury sedan in China, with two new sports models. Sales of the Volvo S90 rose 12.4% to 4575 in July from 4072 in the same period last year, according to model data provided by Volvo. Volvo's cumulative delivery volume also climbed 12.3% year-on-year to 80380 vehicles in the first seven months of this year.

Jaguar Land Rover is also picking up amid the overall bright performance of luxury cars; in July, Jaguar Land Rover's sales in China rose 40.3 per cent to 8661 vehicles from a year earlier, thanks in part to its proactive adjustment to improve the capacity of the system. Jaguar Land Rover delivered 32985 vehicles in China from January to July, still down 18.6 per cent from the same period last year.

It is understood that after the aurora of the new generation Land Rover, from the second half of the year to April next year, Jaguar Land Rover will also launch three new models, namely, the new Jaguar XEL, the new generation Land Rover Discovery Shenxing, and the Guardian, in order to accelerate the upgrading of the product matrix and further boost the rapid growth of Jaguar Land Rover sales in China.
