Although the sales of new energy vehicles showed negative growth in July, it did not affect the pace of Hyundai, Toyota, Volvo, Volkswagen and other companies to deploy new energy in China.

Judging from the actions of Beijing Hyundai, the leading plug-in (PHEV) version of the car has recently been launched. According to the survey, Hyundai Motor has launched new energy vehicle models such as Elantra EV and Sonata plug-in in China, but compared with other car companies' new energy products, brand awareness and sales are not high. In 2018, Beijing Hyundai New Energy vehicles sold only 3464 vehicles in China, accounting for 0.4 per cent of its total car sales.

Entering 2019, Beijing will speed up the layout of new energy vehicles. On the one hand, Beijing Hyundai announced plans to launch three new energy models in the second half of 2019, including the Onchino, which was developed using a new platform. The pure electric version of Festa's two cars. On the other hand, in terms of production capacity, unless part of the production line of the fifth factory in Chongqing is planned to be transposed into the electric vehicle production line, the upcoming Anxino EV will be equipped with a power battery pack produced by Chinese local manufacturer CATL for the first time, and will be widely discussed in many fields, such as the development of new battery technology and battery recycling. As for hydrogen-fueled vehicles, although China's relevant standards have not yet been issued, the hydrogen fuel laboratory jointly built by Hyundai Motor and Tsinghua University has also been put into operation.

In fact, not only Beijing Hyundai, including Toyota, Volkswagen and other joint ventures, but also frequently in China's new energy vehicle market.

Toyota announced that it would launch 10 electric models in China by 2025, while Volkswagen CEO Dis said it would launch 400000 new energy vehicles in the Chinese market by 2020.

China is the most important market for both Hyundai and Toyota-Volkswagen. Hyundai was able to end a decline in global sales for nearly three years in the first half of 2019, largely because of sales growth in the Chinese market.

In addition, the change in the double points policy has also forced many joint ventures to make efforts in new energy vehicles.

Automobile industry analyst Zhang Qiang believes that no matter hybrid, pure electricity or hydrogen fuel, they all have advantages and disadvantages within a certain range, so they will not develop independently, but will develop in parallel. At present, Hyundai Automobile is one of the few automobile companies in the world to develop three new energy models at the same time, although it will increase its R & D and operating costs in the short term. But in the long run, it can meet the more complex and diversified needs of the market.
