With the approval of the State Council, the tariff Commission of the State Council has decided to impose unequal tariffs of 10% and 5% on 5078 items and about 75 billion US dollars of goods originating in the United States, which will be implemented in two batches from 12:01 on September 1 and 12:01 on December 15, 2019. In other words, after the tax, American cars will be restored from the previous 15% tariff to the previous 40% tariff.

On August 15, 2019, the US government announced a 10 per cent tariff on about $300 billion in imports from China, which will be implemented in two batches from September 1 and December 15, 2019, according to the State Council tariff Commission. The US measures have led to the continuous escalation of Sino-US economic and trade frictions, greatly harming the interests of China, the United States and other countries, and seriously threatening the multilateral trading system and the principle of free trade.

In response to the above-mentioned measures of the US side, the Chinese side was forced to take counter-measures. At the same time, the tariff Commission of the State Council will continue to carry out the work of excluding customs goods levied by the United States and Canada. In the US $75 billion list of commodities, the excluded goods determined by examination and approval shall not be subject to the tariff imposed by me for the anti-Meimei 301 measures according to the exclusion measures; the commodities not included in the scope of exclusion of the first two batches will be included in the scope of the third batch that can apply for exclusion, and the method for accepting applications will be announced separately.

The tariff adjustment is aimed at all imported cars from the United States, not American-branded cars, that is, all brand cars made in the United States that are imported into China are on the list of tariff adjustments.

For example, Ford, Chevrolet, Buick and Jeep are all American brands, but most models have been localized and are not affected by tariff adjustment. A small number of models of these brands are imported but do not sell much. Only American brands such as Tesla and Lincoln, which are produced in the United States and imported to China, will be affected.

However, German brands with large sales, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE, are produced in the United States, but they will be affected by tariffs, which is the main reason why Mercedes-Benz and BMW import SUV prices have risen one after another after the tariff was imposed.
