AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)08/24 Report--
According to foreign media reports, electric car maker Tesla has agreed to purchase batteries from LG Chemical to be used in electric vehicles produced by the Shanghai super factory. Tesla's factory, located in Shanghai, is the company's first factory outside the United States.
Foreign media quoted sources as saying that Tesla agreed to purchase batteries from LG Chemical, which will initially be used in the Model 3 produced by the Shanghai Super Factory, and will also use LG Chemical batteries when the factory launches the compact crossover sedan Model Y.
However, sources also revealed that the purchase agreement reached between Tesla and LG Chemical is not exclusive, which means that electric vehicles produced by Tesla's Shanghai super factory may also purchase batteries from other manufacturers. Tesla also intends to diversify the battery supply of the Shanghai super factory. Tesla's Shanghai plant plans to start production later this year as part of the electric car pioneer's foray into the world's largest market for new energy vehicles.
Tesla Shanghai Super Factory started construction on January 7 this year, completed the pile foundation construction in April, and started the construction of the steel structure of the plant. The relevant production equipment began to enter the plant in the second quarter, preparing for the first stage of mass production. It is expected to be put into production by the end of the year, and the first production will be Model 3.
Although Tesla may also purchase batteries from other manufacturers, agreeing to purchase batteries from LG Chemical also makes the latter smoothly enter the ranks of Tesla's battery suppliers.
Tesla plans to supply its electric cars in China through a number of battery suppliers; Tesla is also in talks with China's top battery maker Ningde Times in March, it was reported. Tesla has established a long-term relationship with Japan's Panasonic, which makes batteries for it.
Tesla's current battery partner is Panasonic. Tesla's super factory in Reno, Nevada, was built jointly with Tesla and Panasonic, mainly to produce batteries for Tesla's electric vehicles, but it has not yet been fully completed. after completion, it can supply Tesla with 500000 batteries for electric vehicles every year.
