This is Volkswagen Group's first new MEB plant in the world, with a total investment of about 17 billion yuan, a total construction area of about 610000 square meters, and a planned annual production capacity of 300000 vehicles. It is expected to be officially completed and put into production in October 2020. Volkswagen Group will put into production a new generation of pure electric vehicles based on the MEB platform, according to the latest official pictures. At present, the MEB factory has begun to take shape.

Since the start of construction in October last year, the construction of the main body of the MEB factory has been basically completed in 10 months. As SAIC-Volkswagen's first MEB plant in the world, it has stamping, body, paint, final assembly and battery assembly workshops, as well as car body distribution center, elevated three-dimensional warehouse, test lane and other facilities. All the equipment is scheduled to be installed in October this year, and the first prototype car for trial production in November will be officially offline.

The completion of the MEB plant means that Volkswagen is making efforts in the new energy vehicle industry and does not want it to have only fuel vehicles in the Chinese market, but to develop both traditional cars and new energy sources. Volkswagen plans to launch 14 electric vehicles in China this year, Volkswagen CEO Deiss said recently at the 2019 World New Energy vehicle Congress in Boao. By 2028, more than half of the 22 million electric vehicles the company plans to produce will be made in China.

The establishment of the MEB plant and the models to be put into production also confirm Volkswagen's determination, and the opening of this plant will also give Volkswagen an advantage. The new plant will produce pure electric vehicles based on the MEB platform, which is also Volkswagen's new platform for pure electric vehicles.

It is understood that the first mass production in the SAIC-Volkswagen MEB factory has identified three MEB models, one is ID.Roomzz 's pure electric SUV concept car, the second is Skoda Vision IV electric car, and the third is Audi Q4 e-tron electric car, which is also Audi's first electric car equipped with MEB platform.

In the past two years, SAIC Volkswagen has successively launched Tuguan L PHEV, Passat PHEV and Lang Yi BEV in the field of new energy, and the first two have good sales performance. Passat PHEV has accumulated sales of 14555 units in the past 7 months, making it the top seller of joint venture PHEV models. In addition, SAIC-Volkswagen will launch its flagship model, the Huieng PHEV. In the future, with the continuous introduction of new MEB pure electric products, SAIC-Volkswagen will further enhance its say in the field of new energy.

In China's competitive new energy market, there are more and more powerful multinational car companies, but obviously, according to the current new energy development, Volkswagen still lags behind a number of Japanese car companies, among which Toyota, which has been immersed in hybrid new energy and hydrogen fuel cell for many years, has become one of the strong competitors of Volkswagen MEB products to a great extent.

But from the current Volkswagen mixed view L and mixed Passat sales point of view, Volkswagen also has a great advantage. From the perspective of the development of the market, Volkswagen can be regarded as an established car company in China, and Volkswagen has accumulated a certain popularity in terms of brand, product power and marketing. The completion of the MEB plant will narrow the gap between Volkswagen and Toyota, even on the MEB platform, which Toyota cannot match. The MEB plant will also provide an opportunity for Volkswagen to build its brand again, with Volkswagen Group forecast to use the platform to build 15 million electric vehicles over the next 10 years.
