Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. and Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products. Due to parts supply problems, some imported and domestic GLK-class and S-class 4WD vehicles will be recalled from April 30,2020, totaling 75415 vehicles. The details are as follows:

(I) Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. recalled some imported GLK-class and S-class four-wheel drive vehicles manufactured between October 1,2011 and October 31,2013, totaling 16531 vehicles.

(II) Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. recalled some domestic GLK-class four-wheel drive vehicles produced between October 18,2011 and October 31,2013, totaling 58884 vehicles.

For some vehicles within the scope of this recall, due to the manufacturer's reasons, the universal joint cross shaft of the front drive shaft is not hard enough and the surface is not smooth, which may lead to abnormal wear of the cross shaft and bearing during use. As the clearance between the spider shaft and the bearing increases and the vehicle continues to travel a long distance, the flange of the front drive shaft universal joint may eventually break, causing the vehicle to lose driving force and posing a safety hazard. Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. and Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. will replace qualified front drive shafts for vehicles within the scope of recall free of charge to eliminate safety hazards.

The recall was carried out under the circumstances that the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration initiated a defect investigation. For some time, the Defective Product Management Center of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration has received defect clue reports from consumers on this issue. After receiving the report, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration immediately deployed the Defective Product Management Center of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration to carry out defect investigation and assessment on the above problems. Affected by the investigation, Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. and Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. decided to take recall measures to eliminate potential safety hazards.
