Toyota is recalling nearly 191000 vehicles in North America and Japan to replace faulty Takata airbags, according to foreign media reports. The company announced on Wednesday that the front passenger airbags of some 2003-2008 Corolla and 2005-2008 Matrix models may not be properly inflated, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Toyota spokesman Tania Saldana said the airbags replaced to resolve the Takata airbag recall were made by an "alternative supplier". But he declined to comment on whether any injuries were caused by the recent recall. Toyota said dealers would replace defective airbags free of charge and owners would be notified by email by the end of October.

Takata airbags triggered the largest recall in global car history, forcing 19 carmakers to recall about 100 million airbags worldwide. At least 24 people have been killed worldwide and about 290 injured related to Takata airbags. U. S. automakers and regulators have been trying for years to recall and replace all defective airbags. For the ammonium nitrate gas generator without desiccant produced by Takata Company, when the airbag is deployed, the gas generator may be damaged, resulting in debris flying out, injuring the people in the car, and there is a safety hidden danger.

"this recall involves a new and different issue, which is that airbags may not be deployed on some cars as designed," Toyota said. " Earlier this year, Toyota also announced a worldwide recall of 1.7 million vehicles, also because of safety risks in airbags that could harm passengers.
