AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)03/08 Report--

Last October, BMW successfully joined hands with Great Wall to form a beam car joint venture, the new company will produce new energy vehicles, and BMW has always planned to turn China into an export center for electric vehicles, but BMW has been hesitant recently because of the uncertainty of trade tariffs between China and the United States.

According to foreign media reports, BMW executives said that BMW's ambition to turn China into an electric vehicle export center is now in a state of uncertainty because of the uncertainty of trade tariffs between China and the United States.

If the Sino-US trade war is not settled, import tariffs on Chinese goods worth about $200 billion will be raised from 10 per cent to 25 per cent, including exported cars, said Harald Krueger, chief executive of BMW Group. The uncertainty caused by the trade dispute makes it difficult for BMW to decide on exports. "the current situation does not provide the basis for the final decision, and whether it is economically feasible and meaningful to build China into an electric car export center needs to be assessed."

BMW bought a majority stake in Brilliance, its Chinese joint venture partner, last year and announced plans to produce an all-electric version of the X3 SUV iX3 at the joint venture's Chinese plant. Earlier, Great Wall formally signed a joint venture contract with BMW, which stipulates that Great Wall and BMW will establish a joint venture, and Future Light Motor will produce MINI electric cars and promote the electrification of the MINI brand.
