According to media sources, six former and current employees of Tesla said Tesla executives had not yet decided where to produce the upcoming cross-border SUV model, Model Y. Tesla still plans to launch the car at the design center in Hawthorne, Calif., on March 14.

Two other sources from Tesla's suppliers said Tesla did not contact them about cooperation in the production of Model Y. This shows that Tesla has just begun to plan the production of Model Y.

Along with a pickup model planned for release later this year, Model Y ensures that Tesla's product line remains competitive with other electric trucks and SUV manufacturers. Tesla's competitors in this area include Rivian, which won an investment from Amazon, and established automakers such as BMW and Hyundai. All these manufacturers are launching electric cars.

Tesla employees say executives, including Jerome Guillen, president of the automotive business, are wavering between the two options on Model Y production. The question they are considering now is whether to allocate production workshops at the super factory in Reno, Nevada, or to integrate the Model S and Modle X body production lines at the Fremont plant in California to make room for Model Y production.

But the Nevada superfactory was originally planned to produce batteries for Tesla electric cars, which Tesla and partners worked with. if Tesla produced Panasonic Y in the factory, Tesla might need to buy land space from Panasonic, after all, the agreement at the time stipulated that the two companies had to agree with each other on factory land, construction and facility management. In addition, the plant is still under construction and quality control has not yet been established to deal with body stamping, window and seat installation, vehicle painting and assembly.

However, some sources said to the outside world that Tesla Model Y will be made in Shanghai Super Factory, so we'd better look forward to it.
