AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/06 Report--
According to foreign media reports, GM has appointed Deborah Val, chief marketing officer of its luxury Cadillac brand, as GM's global chief marketing officer for the first time in seven years.
GM's last chief marketing officer was Ewanick. In 2012, GM Chevrolet signed a costly sponsorship deal with Manchester United Football Club, and Ewanick was fired by GM CEO Akerson at the time.
Val joined Cadillac in March 2018 as Cadillac's chief marketing officer. Prior to that, he served as Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald's Buy Branch for three years and Chief Marketing Officer of PulteGroup, one of the largest architects in the United States. In addition, she has rich experience in auto marketing and has held marketing positions in Chrysler, Lexus, Toyota, Lincoln and so on.
Val, the new chief marketing officer, will report to Barry Engel, GM's president of the Americas. The marketing directors of Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, an Star and General Finance will jointly report to the heads of Val and their respective business units, Mr. Bora said. Melissa Grady will replace Val as Cadillac's chief marketing officer.
Mary Bora, GM's chief executive and chairman, said in a memo to employees that Val would immediately start a new job, responsible for the marketing of all the company's brands, including Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC trucks.
"under Val's leadership, by integrating GM's marketing, we will build a stronger brand while ensuring more efficient customer participation," Bora said in the memo. "
"it's not enough to provide good products or the best sales and service satisfaction in the industry," Bora said. To be successful, we must go beyond our own industry and provide a world-class experience at every customer contact point. "
It is understood that GM's retail sales in China were 754000 vehicles in the second quarter of this year, down 12.2% from a year earlier and slightly lower than the 17.5% decline in the first quarter. In the first half of this year, GM sold a total of 1.568 million vehicles in China, down 15.0% from a year earlier.
GM has two major joint ventures in China, SAIC GM and SAIC GM Wuling, including Cadillac, Buick, Chevrolet, Baojun, Wuling and so on. From January to June this year, only Cadillac sales in China maintained positive growth.
