AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/07 Report--

As major car companies have released sales figures for August, sales of Japanese brands, which rank third in the domestic market share, have all been released. Japanese brand sales are mainly concentrated in Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda, which showed different trends in August.

Toyota failed to continue its momentum of sustained growth in August, with sales falling for both the Mazda brand and Nissan and Honda.

Toyota put an end to continued sales growth, with overall sales in China falling 3.8% year-on-year to 129200 vehicles in August, ending 18 consecutive months of sales growth. This is mainly due to the decline in sales of the high-end brand Lexus and the decline in sales caused by the upgrading of Toyota's main models, which have failed to offset the decline even though the Rayling and Asian Dragon markets are strong.

Toyota's new generation Corolla officially went on sale in China on Aug. 9. The price range of 1.2t gasoline version is 11.98-145800, and the price of 1.8L hybrid version is 13.58-159800. The upgrading of the model needs a market transition period, resulting in a sharp drop of 46.7% in sales of Corolla in August compared with the same period last year. Fell to 16900 vehicles.

The Lexus brand also ended its growing sales, which fell 4.3 per cent year-on-year to 16921 in August compared with 17675 in the same period last year. However, Lexus still has the highest cumulative annual growth, with sales of 126854 vehicles from January to August, an increase of 24.9% over the same period last year, of which the cumulative sales of smart hybrid models reached 42466, up 33.5% from the same period last year.

Another decline in sales was the Mazda brand, which sold 17729 new cars in China in August, down 20.7 per cent from a year earlier to 141125 from January to August, compared with 188805 in the same period last year, down 25.25 per cent from a year earlier. In the first eight months, Mazda achieved 52.27% of its sales target of 270000 vehicles.

FAW Mazda's new Atez went on sale in August, and at the Chengdu auto show in September, Mazda also showed the new Uncella, two new cars that will become Mazda's blockbuster in 2019, saving the decline in sales, but the current market feedback is not very good. Mazda believes that it is not appropriate to sell heroes and will not take price reduction measures.

In August, Nissan became the top seller of Japanese brands, reaching 129659 vehicles, up 2 per cent from a year earlier. Among them, Dongfeng Nissan sold 100000 vehicles in August, up 4.3% from a year earlier. Teana sold 10, 000 specific models that month, while the 14-generation Xuanyi, which went on sale, sold 11467, while the overall sales of SUV models were 45000, up 16.5% from the same period last year.

Honda also saw growth, with sales rising 5.9 per cent to 124155 vehicles in August from a year earlier, the sixth consecutive month higher than a year earlier, but showing signs of slowing. Honda only has more than 20, 000 models, the Civic and the CR-V, and sales of the 10th-generation Accord, which is mired in a flaw recall, were heavily affected by negative news in August.

In terms of new cars, Dongfeng Honda Ericsson sharp hybrid version will be launched in September, Guangzhou Auto Honda's new SUV Haoying will also be listed, further enriching Honda's model layout in the Chinese market.

China's overall new car sales declined for 14 consecutive months compared with the same period last year, while the market share of German and Japanese brands continued to increase, objectively reflecting consumers' market recognition of the brand. However, the growth rate of Japanese brands has also slowed recently, and the decline in sales compared with the same period last year reflects different market trends.
