The good policy of pickup has been launched continuously. At present, a total of six provinces in China have been listed as pilot provinces for lifting the ban, including Hebei, Henan, Liaoning, Yunnan, Xinjiang and Hubei. On June 3 this year, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the Ministry of Commerce jointly issued the implementation Plan for promoting the Renewal and upgrading of key Consumer goods and the Recycling of Resources (2019-2020). It is clearly pointed out that efforts should be made to break down market barriers that restrict automobile consumption, and new regulations on car purchase restrictions are strictly prohibited. Cities at and below the prefecture level with conditions are encouraged to speed up the lifting of restrictions on the entry of pickups into cities.
In the past two years, consumers in first-and second-tier cities have begun to buy imported high-end pickups for cross-country and travel, and the needs of pickup users have become increasingly diversified.
Sales of domestic pick-up trucks from January to July this year were 2.45592 billion, down 1 per cent from a year earlier, according to the Federation of passengers. Monthly sales in July were 25186, down 12% from a year earlier. However, throughout the entire pickup market, especially in the first half of the year, the production and sales of pickup gasoline vehicles were 70, 000 and 68000, an increase of 36.2% and 32% respectively over the same period last year, which also shows that gasoline models are gradually replacing diesel models as the main sales force of the pickup market.

With the continuous opening of the policy, the application properties of pickups are gradually changing. This can be seen in the new models launched by the Great Wall, Jiangling and SAIC Chase this year. Take the Great Wall as an example, the existing model Fengjun series has been focused on commercial use. However, with the continuous changes in the needs of the market and users, the Great Wall Cannon, which is more comfortable and more fully functional, arises at the historic moment. Prior to this, domestic pickups have been focused on the low-end market.
Jiangling Tiger 3 not only inherits the design genes of the tiger family, but also makes further optimization in interior design and driving comfort. It integrates more configurations and functions that will appear in the home car, in order to provide a good experience for drivers and passengers in both the workplace and home scenes, and greatly expands the applicable scene of the pickup model. This series of changes also marks that pickup models are moving towards the stage of passenger development.
Earlier, Wei Jianjun, chairman of Great Wall Motor, said that Great Wall had been thinking about the decision to use a pickup truck for more than two years. "although the capacity of the pickup market is small, pickup culture is gradually taking shape. The formation of pickup culture is guided by foreign brands. Pickup is often a pull in the cognition of Chinese consumers. In fact, pickup multiplication is very common in North America, South America and Southeast Asia."
However, China's pickup market is still in the low-end tool car stage, and Chinese pickup manufacturers are still in the product gap in the middle and high-end market. In the international pickup market, GM, Ford, Toyota and Nissan mainly focus on the high-end pickup market, and many pickup products are produced and sold in the United States. At present, autonomous pickup models such as the Great Wall Gun series have begun to advance to the middle and high end in order to seek more market share.
