China's auto market continues to decline! According to the August sales statistics released by the Federation of passengers, sales in the domestic passenger car market reached 1.564 million in August, down 9.9% from a year earlier, down 9.9% from January to August to 13.001 million, down 8.9% from a year earlier. Compared with the continuous double-digit decline in the first half of the year, the situation improved in the second half of the year, but the downward trend has not changed significantly.

The sales rankings of car companies changed greatly in August, with Volkswagen's two joint ventures still strong, each in one or two places, Dongfeng Nissan replacing SAIC GM in third place with a small gap, while Beijing Mercedes-Benz posted the biggest increase of 26%. Four other car companies fell more than 20 per cent.

In the cold winter of the car market, Volkswagen Group has an advantage in the market and plays a role. The two car companies of North and South Volkswagen are very close in sales, and together occupy 20.9% of the domestic passenger car market.

FAW-Volkswagen played steadily, with the launch of SUV products and the recovery of Audi brand sales, sales reached 165800 vehicles in August, of which Audi achieved sales growth in July and August. At the Chengdu Auto Show, the first SUV of the Jetta brand was officially listed, and the main selling model was priced at about 100000 yuan, which entered the low-end car market, which had a great impact on the independent brand. FAW-Volkswagen has also formed three major brand development routes, and future sales are worth looking forward to.

SAIC-Volkswagen performance is not stable, new product launch has not fully opened the market, Skoda brand continues to shrink, SAIC-Volkswagen sales continue to decline. SAIC-Volkswagen sold less than 161000 vehicles in July, down 2.4% from a year earlier, with cumulative sales of 1.196 million vehicles from January to August, down 7.4% from a year earlier.

SAIC GM continued to fall sharply, once again lost the third place. Dongfeng Nissan rose to third place with 108500 vehicles in August, while SAIC GM sold 108300 vehicles, down 23% from a year earlier.

SAIC GM adopts the method of "price for volume" to preserve sales, but it lacks continued attractiveness to consumers, and sales have changed significantly. The popularity of three-cylinder engines or the main reason for the sharp decline in SAIC GM sales, Buick and Chevrolet suffered a heavy setback, and SAIC GM launched an eight-year or 160000-kilometer quality assurance plan to stabilize consumer sentiment. SAIC GM sold 977700 vehicles from January to August, down 13.4 per cent from a year earlier.

With the exception of SAIC GM, Geely Motor, SAIC GM Wuling and Beijing Hyundai all fell by more than 20%.

Geely, the "autonomous dark horse", remains at the top five levels, but sales continue to decline sharply. Geely officially reported wholesale sales of 101223 vehicles in August, compared with terminal retail sales of 98015, compared with a year-on-year decline of about 20 per cent. Geely launched a number of new product segments this year, but sales are still low, reflecting the poor market environment on the one hand and the intensification of competition among independent brands on the other.

SAIC GM Wuling also continued to decline sharply, with sales falling 26.7% in August and 27.2% in the previous August, making it the biggest decline in the top 15 rankings. The decline of the Wuling Baojun market confirms that the independent low-end brands have been hit hardest. Secondly, the MPV market continues to shrink and is affected by the upgrading of consumer demand. Domestic MPV sales in August were 98000, down 21.6% year on year and 19.8% from January to August. At present, the Wuling Baojun brand is accelerating its development to the SUV market.

Sales of independent brands Great Wall and Chang'an have recovered somewhat, with growth in August due to a low base in the same period last year, with Great Wall returning to the top 10. It is worth noting that Geely continued to decline, and Great Wall, Changan drifted in the top 10, reflecting the difficult survival of independent brands.

Japanese car companies grew collectively, with only FAW Toyota falling 16.6% as the main model, the Corolla, ushered in a sales gap in August. With the exception of Dongfeng Nissan, the top 8-9 were all occupied by Japanese automakers, with Dongfeng Honda and Guangzhou Auto Toyota rising by double digits.

But radical Honda also paid the price. Following the brake door and throttle, Honda announced a recall of 220000 10th-generation Accord and 30, 000 INSPIRE vehicles in August, officially confirming that it may cause vehicle stall in a hot and humid environment, which has a negative impact on Honda's reputation for reliability.

The growth of luxury brands against the trend is the biggest bright spot in the auto market. Beijing Mercedes-Benz sold nearly 50,000 vehicles in August, up 26% from a year earlier, making it the biggest increase among car companies. In fact, luxury cars, including first-tier and second-tier top brands, have achieved year-on-year growth, reflecting that luxury brands are on their own under the pressure of the car market.

The downward trend of the domestic car market will continue, and the passenger car market may reach a double-digit decline for the whole year, making it more and more difficult for independent brands to survive. Statistics show that the share of new cars of independent brands has fallen to 39.1% this year from 43% in the same period last year. In the joint venture brands, North and South Volkswagen is still strong, while Japanese and luxury brands continue to grow.
