AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/16 Report--

According to overseas media reports, GM recently failed to reach a preliminary agreement on salary, medical benefits, temporary workers, job security and other issues, and negotiations reached an impasse. The United Auto Workers Union (UAW) will organize a strike by about 48000 employees of General Motors (General Motors) across the United States starting in the early hours of Monday (16th) local time.

Terry Dittes, vice-chairman of UAW's approach to GM, said the two sides had "clear differences" on issues such as wages, health insurance, temporary workers, job safety and profit sharing. UAW and GM have been negotiating a new round of labor contracts for months, but no agreement was reached after the old contract expired in the early hours of the 15th, in which case the strike was a "last resort".

Foreign media pointed out that once the strike begins, GM's production operations in the United States and even the entire North American region will be shut down, of which GM will close 53 of the 55 facilities in the United States.

Some industry analysts point out that GM can handle a small strike for a week or two, but then the situation will worsen. If GM's North American production line stops, it will cause a loss of US $400 million a day, which will have a significant impact on the economy. The US economy will also suffer as a result.

GM employees on strike, on the other hand, can only receive a subsidy of $250 a week from UAW. At present, the trade union has raised 850 million US dollars in subsidies by levying membership fees.

It will be GM's first national strike since 2007 and the largest in the United States in 12 years. UAW caused GM to lose a lot of money in a day after GM announced the strike. The strike will also cost GM hundreds of millions of dollars.

UAW said employees made concessions to help GM tide over its difficulties when it went bankrupt under the government in 2009. Now the company has decided to close four factories in the United States. Now that the company is making a profit, it deserves a fair contract. Their help made the company what it is today.

Dieters points out that GM has made a record $35 billion in profits on the North American continent over the past three years, but refused to share it with hard-working Americans and is now closing factories.

GM responded in a statement that it had contingency plans to deal with possible disruptions, saying it was ready for "continuous negotiations" until a preliminary agreement was reached, "because there are thousands of GM families and their communities. And thousands of dealers and suppliers are counting on us to make ends meet.

Cao Dewang, the "king of glass", also criticized the strike of the American Automobile Union, saying that the role of the union is to protect those who do not work hard in disguise and form a "big pot of rice." The trade union system in the United States is no longer suitable for the development of manufacturing. It can be said that this is how the decline of American manufacturing was caused, and the former General Motors collapsed because of the formation of trade unions.
