AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/17 Report--
Toyota recently filed a recall plan with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Recall of Defective Automobile Products, and decided to recall 454017 defective models involving Honda imports and two joint ventures, Lexus and Tianjin FAW Toyota, in China.
Among them, Tianjin FAW Toyota Corolla EX, Vios and imported Lexus SC430 models, due to the recall of the vehicle passenger seat airbag equipped with Takata company without desiccant ammonium nitrate gas generator. When the airbag is deployed, the gas generator of the airbag may be abnormally damaged, resulting in fragments flying out and injuring the personnel inside the vehicle, resulting in potential safety hazards. Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. will replace the airbag gas generator of the passenger seat produced by other suppliers free of charge for vehicles within the scope of recall to eliminate safety hazards.
However, for imported Lexus IS250, 250C, 300 and 300C models, due to improper handling of airbag gas generator (expansion device) in the passenger seat of some vehicles within the scope of recall and improper handling by supplier production operator during abnormal stop of equipment filled with ignition powder, there may be incorrect filling of ignition powder, resulting in that the airbag may not be deployed normally during operation, resulting in potential safety hazard. Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. will replace qualified passenger seat airbags for vehicles within the scope of recall free of charge to eliminate safety hazards.
Earlier this year, Toyota announced a recall of 1.7 million vehicles worldwide, also because of safety risks associated with airbags that could harm passengers.
Toyota recently recalled 191,000 vehicles in North America and Japan to replace faulty Takata airbags. Today, the recall news returned to China again. According to statistics, the number of passenger cars recalled due to Takata airbag problem in China has exceeded one million.
The Takata airbag incident in Japan, which broke out in 2015, is the largest car safety recall in North America. After several years, the Takata airbag incident has not been calmed down, and even fatal incidents still occur frequently.
Although the incident really broke out in 2015, Takata airbags have been a safety hazard for 15 years. The main problem lies in the airbag booster pump, which is easy to decompose and explode under certain circumstances, and will splash metal fragments and hurt the driver when deployed.
In fact, Takata airbags triggered the largest recall in global automotive history, forcing 19 automakers to recall about 100 million airbags worldwide. At least 24 people have died worldwide and about 290 have been injured in connection with Takata airbags.
U.S. automakers and regulators have struggled for years to recall and replace all defective airbags. The ammonium nitrate gas generator without desiccant produced by Takata Company may be damaged when the airbag is deployed, resulting in fragments flying out and injuring the personnel inside the vehicle, which has potential safety hazards.
However, Toyota has said: "The recall addresses a new and different issue, namely that airbags may not deploy as designed on certain vehicles."
Although Takata filed for bankruptcy in June 2017, Takata once occupied 20% of the global airbag market. Airbags were originally an important safety requirement for consumers to buy cars. When safety devices are no longer safe but become hidden dangers, no one will agree. Takata's decline is also an inevitable result.
Perhaps the Takata airbag "curse" will continue, but for consumers, only hope that the problem Takata airbag can be completely solved as soon as possible, nothing more.
