AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/18 Report--
The German Transport Ministry has issued an ultimatum to Audi to remove the cheating software installed on diesel vehicles by Sept. 26, otherwise it will receive another huge "fine", according to the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag.
The German Transport Ministry said that if Audi fails to delete the cheating software and obtain EU6 emission certification by the Sept. 26 deadline, each car with cheating software will be fined 25000 euros (about 200000 yuan). It means that all kinds of Audi models meet the requirements of the law without using emission cheating software.
In addition, the German Transport Ministry also informed Audi that it had cancelled approval for illegal diesel models that had not been modified before the deadline. Audi said it was a plan that needed to be completed by the September 26 deadline. "in September, we will submit documents for another 8200 vehicles within the deadline set by the German Transport Ministry," the company said.
It is reported that 12400 cars will be affected by the deadline. Audi said it provided additional software solutions for the remaining 4200 cars. "We do not see any reason to revoke the approval. A solution is imminent; we will meet the deadline.
Photo Network reported that Audi will face another costly buyback. The main model is the old EU4 diesel, but there has been no official response.
However, the report quoted sources as saying that these problematic models cannot be legalized only by software measures, but require a major redesign of the hardware.
Volkswagen admitted in September 2015 that it cheated US diesel engine emissions tests by using illegal software, triggering the biggest crisis in the company's history and intensifying regulation of the auto industry.
In May last year, Audi stopped delivering A6 and A7 models with specific diesel engines after discovering unknown problems with emissions software. Germany's Federal Motor vehicle Administration (KBA) has announced a global recall of 60, 000 Audi A6 and A7 vehicles because of illegal emission software installed on their diesel engines.
