AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/19 Report--

According to foreign media reports, Volvo truck North America (Volvo Trucks North America) uses 3D printing technology to produce tools and fixtures needed in the manufacturing process.

Through 3D printing manufacturing tools, the production speed is fast, and the product quality can be continuously improved. Today, Volvo truck's New River Valley plant uses 3D printing technology to produce more than 500 tools and fixtures. The plant is responsible for producing all trucks in Volvo's North American market.

Volvo trucks mainly use selective laser sintering (SLS) technology. This 3D printing technology turns powdered plastic materials into solid structures by laser sintering, which is then rigorously tested and put into use in the manufacturing process. With SLS technology, engineers can draw a product drawing of a terminal part, put it into a machine and print it out in a few hours, reducing the time it takes to make parts with traditional tools. This technology also improves production flexibility. Reduce the time it takes to wait for new parts from the supplier through easy internal printing. As a result, the inventory cost and production space are reduced, and the customer's final product cost is reduced.

Volvo trucks use 3D printing technology to develop an all-in-one diffuser for spray-painting atomizer cleaning, saving more than $1000 per part and eliminating the need for multi-piece components. They also produce spare parts for the 20 parts they make so that they can be replaced easily and quickly in the event of wear and tear. The devices printed by Volvo trucks using 3D technology are: roof seal tester, fuse mounting pressure plate, drilling tool, brake piston itinerary, vacuum drill rod, brake valve joint pressure gauge, cover drilling tool, power steering adapter bracket, box door clearance tester, box door pin.
