BMW plans to cut 5000 to 6000 jobs at its headquarters in Munich, Germany by 2022, Reuters reported, citing Germany's Manager magazine. The layoffs will be announced in December.

It was revealed not long ago that Markus Duesmann, the BMW executive in charge of engine and procurement, would jump ship to become chief executive of Audi, a high-end brand owned by Volkswagen. Now it is revealed that new BMW production directors and personnel directors will be appointed at the BMW supervisory board meeting at the end of September. It is reported that BMW CEO Oliver Zipptzer (Oliver Zipse) will include his right-hand man on the board. BMW's production director is expected to be BMW's quality director, Milan Nedeljkovic, and the personnel director will be replaced by Ilka Horstmeier, the head of BMW's Dingolfing plant. Klaus Froehlich, head of research and development at BMW, is expected to leave next summer because he does not want to work with the group's new CEO, Oliver Zipse. Norbert Reithofer, chairman of BMW's supervisory board, wants him to remain in office, the report said.

It is worth noting that the massive layoffs come only a month after BMW's new chief executive, Mr. Chipze, took office. On Aug. 16, the 55-year-old Chipze officially succeeded Harald Kruger as chairman of BMW Group.

Milagros Kana Andriy (Milagros Caina- Andree), director of human resources and industrial relations at BMW Group, resigned for personal reasons, according to European Automotive News. She is currently the only female member of BMW's board. The BMW supervisory board has approved Andriy's resignation. Andriy joined BMW in 2012 after working at Deutsche Telekom before. Andriy made the decision to leave shortly after the new chairman, Oliver Zipse, took office.

According to BMW's plan, by 2021, the company will have five pure tram models, covering cars and SUV. By 2025, there will be 12 electric cars. This personnel change may make full preparations for the company's electrified transformation. BMW said it would continue to recruit people in areas such as self-driving and electric cars.
