Nissan recently announced its January sales in China. According to statistics, Nissan accumulated 133934 units in China in January, down 0.8 per cent from a year earlier. Nissan had sold 1.564 million vehicles in 2018, failing to meet its sales target of 1.6 million.

In terms of models, Nissan sold 100234 passenger vehicles in January, up 2 per cent from a year earlier, while light commercial vehicles sold 17259 units in January, up 4.5 per cent from a year earlier. Passenger car sales made a significant contribution to Nissan's sales in January, with Nissan Xuanyi ranking first among Nissan's major models with sales of 42188, followed by Xiaoke's 17388, achieving an increase of 32.2% over the same period.

Although Nissan achieved good sales results in January, it still showed a downward trend compared with the same period. The decline in sales has a lot to do with the departure of senior executives from Nissan in China. Nissan has been involved in the "Ghosn incident" since last year, and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance is also facing great challenges. although the alliance's cumulative global sales exceeded 10 million in 2018, the Ghosn incident as a turning point, Nissan's internal management loopholes are also growing. At present, under the influence of the "Ghosn incident", Jose Munoz, chairman of Nissan's China Management Committee, has resigned. According to people familiar with the matter, Jose has been involved in the "Ghosn incident" investigation. The turnover of senior executives has undoubtedly exacerbated the trend of instability within Nissan.

Nissan's failure to meet its sales target in 2018 may be a sign that Nissan's sales will continue to decline. In any case, what Nissan needs most now is internal stability in order to achieve steady growth.
