AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/24 Report--

Recently, Hyundai Motor Group has developed a new front and middle airbag, which is mainly used to protect front passengers and drivers, prevent head collisions and reduce the risk of head injuries. This airbag has been invented before, but it is rarely used in mass production.

As can be seen from the picture, this airbag can protect the shoulders and head of the front passenger. The central airbag is installed in the driver's seat and unfolds upon impact. Hyundai claims that the airbag can reduce the chance of front passenger collisions by 80%. Compared with the same type of airbag weight is about 500 grams, because the airbag size is smaller, the future new car seat design can also have more flexibility.

The company said that when there are no passengers in the car, the airbag will also provide additional protection for the vehicle, that is, to prevent the non-impact surface of the car from being affected by the impact on the other side.

When GM launched its mid-side airbag in the US in 2013, GM said US crash data collected by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showed that deaths from so-called distal (passenger side) impacts accounted for 11 per cent of front seat belt deaths.

Airbags have been born for more than half a century, and now the number of airbags has expanded from the most basic six to ten or more, and the protective parts have been extended from traditional positions to knees and engine hatches (pedestrian protection).
