In order to reduce the damage caused by the accident, Volvo designed a new safety structure at XC40, installing the battery under the vehicle floor, and designed a special aluminum structure safety cage to ensure that the battery can be protected from damage in the event of collision.

In addition, Volvo will also equip the all-electric XC40 with the Advanced driving Assistance system (ADAS) to enable it to drive on its own. The system will consist of multiple radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors and the technology will be developed by Zenuity, a joint venture owned by Volvo and Veoneer.
