Despite Deiss's firm stance, Audi, a luxury brand owned by Volkswagen, plans to launch a hydrogen battery prototype by the end of this year and mass production is expected in 2021. Audi said that in the next decade, while developing pure electricity and plug-in, it will also develop hydrogen-powered vehicles at the same time.

Hydrogen vehicles, as the name implies, are cars that use hydrogen as energy to convert the chemical energy produced by hydrogen reaction into mechanical energy to drive the vehicle. The biggest advantage of using hydrogen as energy is that it reacts with oxygen in the air and only produces water vapor, which effectively reduces the air pollution caused by traditional gasoline vehicles.

A few days ago, South Korea reported that 10 hydrogen-powered taxis in Seoul were put into operation. It is understood that each hydrogen-powered vehicle can be recharged for 5-6 minutes with a range of up to 600km. Powered by hydrogen fuel, the residue from this kind of taxi is water, which will not pollute the air, but can purify the air.

For domestic, hydrogen-fueled vehicles have more advantages than pure electric vehicles, but there are many difficulties in full implementation at this stage. For example, the technology of hydrogen fuel is more complex, more expensive and more difficult to popularize. At the same time, hydrogen fuel cells have to be very strictly sealed, and once leaked, the consequences will be unimaginable.
