According to foreign media reports, Tesla wants to achieve the target of delivering 100000 vehicles in the third quarter of this year, but it is reported that Tesla is still "thousands" short of the delivery target.

Tesla has a "chance" to deliver a record 100000 cars this quarter, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in an email last week. Musk said that with net new orders of 110000 vehicles this quarter, the difficulty was how to deliver these cars to customers in time by the end of the quarter.

Insiders said Tesla has about 3000 vehicles in stock across North America, but not all of them are at the delivery center, waiting for customers to pick them up. So it would be easy for Tesla to deliver five to 1000 such cars in North America on the last day of the quarter. Tesla is expected to release official delivery figures later this week. Musk said Tesla may set another new delivery record, but there seems to be a less optimistic trend in revenue.

Analysts at some institutions expect Tesla's income in the third quarter to be lower than that in the same period last year. If revenue does decline, it will be the company's first decline since the Model S model went into production in 2012.

The drop in revenue is a blow to Mr Musk, who claims there is a "chance" to deliver more than 100000 cars this quarter, but the vast majority of models delivered by Tesla are Model 3 sedans, starting at $38990 in the US. The price of these models is less than half that of the lowest-equipped Model S or Model X.

In February, GM and Fiat Chrysler disclosed for the first time that they had reached an agreement with Tesla to buy emissions credits. These transactions used to be kept secret. GM submitted an application for carbon credits to Tesla earlier this year, while FCA bought Tesla's credits four times in 2016, 2018 and earlier this year.

In April, Fiat Chrysler agreed to pay Tesla hundreds of millions of euros to include Tesla's electric car in FCA's fleet to avoid fines for violating new EU emissions rules.

Tesla suffered a huge shift in sales structure to low-cost cars in the second quarter, followed by Musk's record delivery report, but the loss was more severe than expected. Although the company says it aims to make a profit in the current quarter, it plans to give priority to sales growth.

In the second quarter of this year, Tesla's production and sales continued to climb, completing 95356 car delivery and 87048 vehicle production, surpassing all previous quarterly records. But the profit-loss situation has not been reversed, with a net loss of $408 million.
