Australia's consumer watchdog has classified 20,000 cars equipped with faulty Takata airbags as particularly unsafe, requiring owners to stay off the road immediately, Reuters reported.

BMW, Honda, Mitsubishi and Toyota have listed 20,000 of them as "critical" models, urging owners to stay off the road, the agency said.

Honda Australia said it had replaced 90.9 per cent of the faulty Takata airbags, but still had to respond to the recall for affected consumers. For the Chinese market, it is also widely affected by Takata airbags. In the first half of this year, China recalled 674200 vehicles due to Takata airbag problems, involving BMW, Tesla, Subaru, Ferrari, Toyota and other car companies, while in the second half of this year, China recalled about 733000 Takata airbag vehicles, mainly Mercedes-Benz, Honda and Toyota.
