It is understood that Bolore is a close ally of Ghosn, former chairman and chief executive of Renault. In November last year, Ghosn was accused of concealing a full 5 billion yen (about 300 million yuan) of income in the five years from fiscal year 2010. The actual income was 10 billion yen ($88 million), which violated the Financial Commodities Trading Act and was later arrested in Japan, while Bolore said his support for Ghosn angered Nissan.

In view of Ghosn's arrest and imprisonment, Renault had to consider re-screening new candidates for chairman. In January, Renault appointed Michelin CEO Sennard as Renault chairman and Bolore as chief executive.

Bolore is a new member of Renault and has worked for French car suppliers Michelin and Foggia before joining the carmaker as head of manufacturing and supply chain in 2012.

Under Ghosn's leadership, Bolore was promoted to chief competitiveness officer in 2013 and became Renault's second-largest leader after Ghosn, the company's chief operating officer, in 2018.

After Ghosn's arrest, Sennard, the former chairman of Michelin, was appointed as a Renault director in January, and Bolore succeeded Ghosn as Renault's chief executive.

It is worth noting that while it was revealed that Renault might replace the CEO, Nissan also announced the appointment of senior vice president, chairman of Nissan's China Management Committee, and president of Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. as Nissan CEO.

It is understood that Nissan joined Nissan in 2003 and succeeded Guan run as president of Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd in April 2018 after working in the purchasing department of Nissan and Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance for many years. In April this year, Nissan served as chairman of the China Management Committee of Nissan.

Relations between Nissan and Renault deteriorated after Ghosn's arrest. Nissan owns 15% of Renault but does not have the right to vote, while Renault has 45% of the voting rights, so some Nissan executives complain about the unequal partnership with Renault.

In addition, the failure of the merger between Renault and FCA in May this year led to a freezing point in the relationship between Nissan and Renault. Sennard has been committed to promoting the merger of Nissan and Renault since Sennard became chairman of Renault, but it was opposed by Nissan, as well as by Nissan in seeking a merger with FCA.

Nissan's senior appointment is a "victory for the alliance", which will help ease the relationship between Nissan and Renault and help Nissan's performance recover, according to people familiar with the matter.
