AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/10 Report--

According to domestic media reports, the C-NCAP crash evaluation results of the third batch of seven models in 2019 have been officially announced. A total of 7 models participated in the crash test, namely, FAW Toyota Asia Dragon, Beijing Hyundai Shengda, SAIC Volkswagen Longyi, SAIC Roewe MARVEL X, BYD Qin Pro EV, Chirui Tiger 8 and Jianghuai iEV7S.

Among these seven models, six got five-star scores, but the other one failed. SAIC Roewe MARVEL X collision test comprehensive score rate of 91.6% was the highest, while Jianghuai iEV7S only got a two-star comprehensive score rate of 52.9%.

C-NCAP tests the crash safety performance of new models purchased in the market in accordance with more stringent and comprehensive requirements than the existing mandatory standards in China, and the evaluation results are divided according to stars and released publicly, in order to give consumers systematic and objective vehicle information, and promote the development and production of enterprises in accordance with higher safety standards, so as to effectively reduce the injury and loss of road traffic accidents.

C-NCAP requires three kinds of collision tests for a vehicle model, such as the frontal collision between the vehicle speed 50km/h and the rigid fixed barrier, the frontal offset collision of the vehicle speed 56km/h with the 40% overlap rate of the deformable barrier, and the side collision between the deformable moving barrier speed 50km/h and the vehicle. The test scores and total scores are calculated according to the test data, and the star level is determined by the total score. The scoring rules are very meticulous and strict, with the highest score of 51 points, the lowest star rating of 1 star and the highest 5 +.

According to C-NCAP officials, the seven models involved in the crash test were purchased by the C-NCAP management center from 4S stores of various model brands, at a total cost of about 3.9778 million yuan for C-NCAP. It is understood that the seven models tested this time involve four Chinese brands and three joint venture brands, of which three models are voluntarily applied for evaluation.

From June 24, 2019 to August 29, 2019, these seven models carried out AEB test, pedestrian protection test, three real vehicle collision tests and whipping tests in accordance with the C-NCAP Management rules (version 2018). Finally, the grading and star rating were carried out in accordance with the C-NCAP regulations, and every test arrangement for each model was disclosed in advance on the C-NCAP website.

In terms of model selection, C-NCAP will generally choose new models within two years, because these new cars have adapted to the rules implemented by C-NCAP at the time of development and design, so they can better represent the latest level of safety technology. However, some old models which have been released for a long time are difficult to meet the increasingly stringent collision requirements because of the limitations of the body architecture, so they are not within the scope of the investigation.
