On Oct. 11, Ford China officially released the latest sales figures for the third quarter of 2019, which showed that Ford delivered a total of 121060 new cars in the Chinese market in the third quarter of this year, up from the second quarter of last year and down 30.3% from the same period last year.
In terms of brands, the sales of Ford, Jiangling and Lincoln in the Chinese market declined in the third quarter compared with the same period last year.
Specifically, the Ford brand sold 28119 vehicles in September, up 5% from a month earlier, while cumulative sales in the third quarter were 77443, down 37.7% from a year earlier. It is worth noting that Ford Leader has the highest sales among Ford brands, with a cumulative sales of 11572 vehicles in the third quarter and 305686 in the first three quarters, making it the Ford brand's highest-selling SUV model in the Chinese market in 2019. In addition, sales of pickup products (including Ford Ranger and Ford Fmur150 Raptors) were 1396, up 29 per cent from the second quarter and 24 per cent year-on-year. The cumulative sales from January to September were 3185, up 60 per cent from a year earlier.
Independent brand Jiangling sold 41999 units in the third quarter, down 3 per cent from a year earlier, of which sales reached 16167 in September, up 19 per cent from August and 32 per cent from July.
Luxury brand Lincoln also performed poorly in the third quarter, with sales of 11618 vehicles, down 24.1% from a year earlier, and September sales of 4165 vehicles, up 11% from a month earlier. Among them, the new Lincoln navigator Nautilus sold 2978 vehicles in the third quarter, with a total sales of 9470 vehicles in the first three quarters, up 20% from the same period last year; Lincoln's flagship luxury SUV and Lincoln navigator Navigator sold 779 vehicles in the third quarter, up 11% from the same period last year. A total of 2444 vehicles were sold in the first three quarters, up 45 per cent from the same period last year.
Ford China is currently in a period of adjustment, and in April this year, Ford put forward a "Ford China 2.0" business improvement plan to achieve revival. According to Ford's second-quarter results, net profit was $100m (690 million yuan), down from $1.1 billion (7.56 billion yuan) in the same period last year, and profits fell 86 per cent. Total revenue in the first half of 2019 was $79.2 billion (544.59 billion yuan), down 2% from a year earlier.
In September this year, Ford and Changan signed a deepening strategic cooperation and Changan Ford acceleration plan to improve product R & D and performance from five aspects: research and development, production, supply chain, marketing and innovation.
In terms of new cars, various new cars launched by Ford have achieved good results. Sales of the new Taurus exceeded target in September, up 4.4% from a year earlier, and sales of Ruijie ST-Line models also exceeded expectations in September.
It is worth noting that sales of Lincoln's flagship luxury SUV and Lincoln navigator Navigator increased by 11.4% in the third quarter compared with the same period last year, continuing to maintain a strong growth momentum; sales of the high-performance pickup product Ford Fmur150 Raptor increased by 25% in the third quarter and 46.3% in the third quarter compared with the same period last year.
After that, in addition to Lincoln navigators, including Lincoln MKZ, Lincoln Continental, Lincoln MKC, Lincoln Navigator, Lincoln MKX, a total of five models will be domestically produced. From 2019 to the end of 2021, Changan Ford will launch at least 18 new products, including 5 new energy models.
