AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/12 Report--
At the end of September, Daimler received a fine of 870 million euros from German prosecutors. After handing over the fine, Daimler said the "diesel throttle" scandal was resolved and said the fine would not affect Daimler's third-quarter profits. Today, however, a month later, there are media reports that Daimler was once again ordered by German auto regulators to recall 260000 Sprinter commercial vehicles because of the "diesel valve" scandal.
It is understood that in addition to the fine imposed by German prosecutors in September this year, the German Automobile Administration found that emissions cheating software was installed on Mercedes-Benz C-Class and E-Class cars in August this year, and then ordered Daimler Group to recall 280000 vehicles.
In June, the German Transport Ministry said Daimler had installed illegal software on Mercedes-Benz cars to manipulate emission tests, ordering Daimler to recall 60,000 Mercedes-Benz diesel vehicles in Germany.
Daimler is one of the car companies that have been investigated by car regulators around the world since 2015, when they admitted that diesel emissions were faked. so far, Volkswagen has lost more than 30 billion euros due to the diesel throttle incident. Daimler recalled 3 million vehicles as a result of the diesel throttle incident.
Daimler has paid a heavy price because of the emissions gate scandal. According to Daimler's second-quarter results, its operating income was 42.65 billion euros, up 5% from a year earlier, with a loss of 1.56 billion euros before interest and tax, compared with a profit of 2.6 billion euros in the same period last year, Daimler's first loss in nine years. The last quarterly loss was in 2009. Among them, the fraud of Mercedes-Benz diesel emissions cost Daimler 1.07 billion euros. At the same time, Daimler raised the provision for legal and government litigation costs for diesel vehicles by 1.6 billion euros.
Daimler also confirmed the recall, saying that 260000 Sprinter models recalled belonged to the previous generation and stopped production in 206, and the company is cooperating with the investigation, but will not affect the company's interests.
