According to Bloomberg, Volkswagen is ready to turn the Lamborghini brand into an independent legal entity, and the process may continue until the end of next year. According to analysts, Volkswagen is considering a variety of options for the Lamborghini supercar brand, including selling or going public (IPO).

Herbert Diess, VW's chief executive, also made it clear in his earlier plan that VW's future expansion would focus on the group's major global brands such as Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi to promote a more efficient allocation of resources. At the same time, Volkswagen also said that it is considering whether to abandon some non-core businesses.

In response to the news, a spokesman for Volkswagen Group said that Volkswagen has no plans to sell Lamborghini or promote its IPO, and the relevant speculation and rumors are groundless.

Volkswagen, under Mr Piech, completed its acquisition of the Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini brands in 1998.

Lamborghini global sales hit a record in 2018, reaching 5750 vehicles, up 51 per cent year-on-year, of which 342were sold in the Chinese market.
