AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)03/14 Report--

At the Geneva Motor Show, Ichiro Hirose, an executive in charge of powertrain development at Mazda, told foreign media Drive that Mazda had made a breakthrough in rotor engine technology and that the new flexible rotor hybrid engine was very efficient and could be sold in any market in the world, even in markets with extremely stringent emission regulations.

Hirose calls the new rotor hybrid technology "XEV", and Hirose describes it as a design similar to the Toyota Prius, where the hybrid system can not only generate electricity, but also directly drive the vehicle when needed. Reported that Mazda will launch a new electric car model within this year, of which the "XEV" may also be officially unveiled, and then put on sale in Australia, Japan and other countries next year.

Mazda is a persistent enterprise, "if you have money to engage in rotor engines, if you have no money, you will honestly come down and engage in conventional cars." it has quietly specialized in the field of rotor engines for many years. At that time, there were many manufacturers who engaged in rotor engines, but in the end, Mazda itself was left to fight alone, and finally it was silent for several years as RX-8 stopped production of rotor engines.

Mazda is famous for its adventurous spirit in the industry. when it developed the first generation of Chuangchi Blue Sky Power, it once sold the company's staff dormitories and fixed assets to obtain liquidity. Fortunately, Mazda won the bet on Chuangchi Blue Sky and gradually recovered. In recent years, it can be said that the wind is going well, and Mazda is now "playing" the rotor engine again. Only this time it is in the form of hybrid (rotor + motor).

The development of Mazda rotor engine models:

In 1964, Mazda rotor engine made a breakthrough. With the help of Carbon Company of Japan, using aluminum and carbon composite materials to make "Apex seal" solved the wear problem of rotor engine inner wall. In 1967, the first sports car equipped with rotor engine Cosmo Sport came out. Mazi became the only car company in the world to mass-produce and apply rotor engine.

Then, in 1968, the second rotor engine carrying the car Familia Rotary Coupe came out. 1978 Savanna RX-7, a special-purpose sports car with rotor engine, is on sale in the United States, which won the championship in the GTU class of the North American Daytona24 hour car endurance race.

In 2003, Mazda launched a new rotor engine sports car RX-8, and in 2010, RX-8 failed to meet Euro 5 emission standards, which led to a sharp drop in RX-8 sales. only 1134 RX-8 models were sold worldwide that year, and the last Mazda RX-8 was discontinued in Tokyo in 2012.
