Beijing Customs seized more than 70 old cars and used motor vehicles yesterday, the largest number of used motor vehicles seized by Beijing Customs in recent years, worth nearly 30 million yuan, Beijing Customs said on social media today. It is understood that in the early hours of this morning, the Beijing Customs Anti-smuggling Bureau dispatched more than 60 police officers to carry out concentrated arrests, arrested five criminal suspects, seized six warehouses involved in the case, and temporarily withheld more than 70 second-hand cars suspected of smuggling imports.

According to the anti-smuggling police of Beijing Customs, since 2017, the Customs Anti-smuggling Bureau found that the suspect Xu and others were suspected of smuggling imported vintage cars and immediately began to work. With the strong support and help of the relevant departments of the Anti-smuggling Bureau of the General Administration, the Beijing Customs Anti-smuggling Bureau cooperated closely with the Huangpu Customs Anti-smuggling Bureau, Shanghai Customs Anti-smuggling Bureau and other relevant units, and mastered the master car smuggling gang led by Xu, which integrates procurement, transportation, exhibition, and sales.

After investigation, Xu, Song and others have purchased a large number of used motor vehicles (vintage cars) from the United States, Japan and other places since 2010, transported the vehicles to Thailand, Myanmar and other places, smuggled them into the country through the border, and then transported them to warehouses in Beijing, Shanghai and other places for exhibition or sales profit. According to preliminary statistics, hundreds of used motor vehicles are suspected of being smuggled and imported. At work, the suspect Xu confessed that he knew that the import of used cars was strictly prohibited by the state. Driven by luck, he took risks in desperation and smuggled them into the country after buying used cars abroad. Xu confessed to the crime of smuggling.

Customs reminder: smuggling and importing used motor vehicles does great harm. First, the smuggling and import of used motor vehicles has seriously disturbed the normal import and export trade order of our country, resulting in the loss of national taxes; second, the source of the smuggled and imported used motor vehicles is unknown, which may be stolen or assembled by foreign countries, and there are major security risks. At present, the case is under further investigation.
