An internal notice issued by manufacturers to authorized dealers of BMW was circulated on the Internet today, showing that all four BMW models have been suspended from sale from now on due to engine defects.

According to the notice, according to the relevant quality control, BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. and brilliance BMW Co., Ltd. decided to stop sales and delivery activities for some G12, G20, G28 and G29 models from now on.

It is understood that the above names represent the chassis code, corresponding to G12-new 7-series, G20-new generation 3-series standard wheelbase version, G28-new generation 3-series long wheelbase version, G29-new generation BMW Z4. Among them, the new generation 3 series went on sale in June this year, all equipped with B48 series engines.

The reason is that there are defects in the engine. The notice shows that there is a problem with the balance shaft bearing of the engine on the vehicle in question, and the solution is to replace the engine. In addition, the notice did not specify the specific number of vehicles involved.

At the same time, BMW has recalled models in overseas markets because the bearings in the affected B46/B48 engines may not be strong enough, which can lead to premature bearing wear and damage to the engine, and the engine may stall while driving.

Manufacturers "recall" direct replacement of the engine, the transaction is very high, indicating that the defect problem is more serious, can not be solved by replacing the corresponding parts. The balance shaft bearing problems mentioned in the notice, or design reasons, there is also the possibility of supplier manufacturing reasons.

As of press time, BMW officials and the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration did not find the recall information of the models involved in the above notice. However, generally speaking, before the recall action, manufacturers specially issued a document to notify dealers to suspend car delivery, which is also a more common phenomenon in the industry. The new "Consumer Law" clearly stipulates that as long as business operators find that the commodities or services they provide are defective and endanger personal and property safety, they should immediately take measures such as stopping sales, warning, recall and so on. At the same time, the necessary expenses incurred by consumers due to commodity recalls shall be borne by operators.

BMW has had frequent recalls this year. On May 27th, BMW announced a total of 319045 vehicles, including domestic 3-Series and 5-Series cars produced in 2005-11, and imported BMW 1-Series, 3-Series, 5-Series, 7-Series, X1, X3, X5 and Z4 cars produced in 05-11. The reason for the recall is that due to the material and manufacturing reasons of the engine crankcase ventilation duct heater (PCV heater) of the vehicle, the internal components of the heater may increase the contact resistance due to water vapor corrosion after long-term use, resulting in overheating and melting damage of the plastic shell when the heater is working, which increases the risk of vehicle fire.

On April 16, BMW announced a recall of 61 models, including 118i, 318i and X3, totaling 360000 vehicles, which could hurt people in the car because they were equipped with airbags made by Takata.

On April 8th, BMW announced a recall of 121381 vehicles, including domestic and imported 318i, 320i and 325i vehicles produced in 10-11 years, due to the use of tin coating on the cable joints of the front distribution box due to design errors, the coating may be worn after long-term use, resulting in poor contact of the cable joints, which may lead to the vehicle unable to start or the failure of the electronic module, increasing the difficulty of vehicle control.

The internal notice to the above-mentioned dealers will lead to a recall of sold vehicles and the upcoming delivery of new cars will also be affected. Data show that BMW delivered a total of 526017 new cars in China from January to September, up 14.4% from a year earlier, higher than Audi's 491000 and Mercedes-Benz's 525900, temporarily ranking first among luxury brands.
