Recently, SAIC officially released sales figures for September and the first three quarters of this year. According to the data, SAIC sold about 4.414 million vehicles from January to September this year, down 14.23% from the same period last year. Among them, monthly sales in September were about 550000 vehicles, down 9.94% from a year earlier, compared with a 7.87% year-on-year decline in August by SAIC.

From the perspective of specific brands, SAIC joint venture brands are in a downward trend. In the first three quarters, SAIC-Volkswagen sold 1.516 million vehicles, down 8.2% from the same period last year; SAIC GM sold 1.434 million vehicles, down 15% from the same period last year; and SAIC GM Wuling sold 1.127 million vehicles, down 24.6% from the same period last year. In the independent sector, SAIC sold a total of 471000 passenger cars in the third quarter, down 7.3 per cent from a year earlier.

However, SAIC Chase, a subsidiary of SAIC, sold more than 15000 vehicles in September, with cumulative sales exceeding 100000 in the first three quarters, an increase of 10.5% over the same period last year, becoming the only growth bright spot in SAIC's passenger car sector. Behind the counter-trend growth is SAIC Chase's strength in overseas markets. It is reported that SAIC Chase's overseas sales doubled in September, a year-on-year increase of 116%. From January to September this year, SAIC Chase's cumulative overseas sales reached 13050 units, an increase of 19.48 percent over the same period last year.

SAIC also pointed out in its semi-annual report that the decline in sales was largely affected by the environment of the auto market, but this did not affect its strategic expansion and focused on new energy. In the author's opinion, the 5G automobile field will be the focus of SAIC for some time in the future. Although SAIC has dropped a little in sales, it is the case in the automobile industry itself at present.

At the end of September this year, SAIC Ningde, the fourth largest passenger car production base of SAIC Group, was completed and put into production, with an annual production capacity of 240000 vehicles, mainly responsible for the production and manufacture of new energy models.
